Protect Your Neopets Account!

Protect Neopets Account

Contrary to popular believe, neopets.com has never, ever been hacked. Ever. Why? True hackers are few and intelligent. They know the consequences of their actions and would rather hack a bank than a virtual website. The only ways your account can be violated are your fault, and usually involve a scammer of some sort. These are the evil meanies who scam you into giving them your password. Do not let your hard earned neopoints get drained! Protect your neopets! Read on!

A Good Password

... is the best thing you can do to protect your account. Use a combination of capital and lowercase letters and numbers (maybe even a ! or two.) Keep it hard to guess- do not use your name, birthday, or any other easy to remember thing. In fact, the best passwords require you to write them on your hand to remember them! Here are some examples of good passwords: aLPHa5bet8ta975, pr0gRE78sSo, f54O8rK93 (ps- don't use those ^_^.) If you can't think of a good, safe password, follow these steps to create an amazing one:

Change it up

Another great way to keep the scammers guessing is to change your password often. At least once every 6 months, change your password to another, different combination of capital and lowercase letters and numbers. It may seem like an annoyance, but when you have a seasoned account with a few million neopoints you will be glad to change it up a bit :)

Never Tell

The most common way to lose your account to a scammer is by telling them your password. It is surprising how many people will answer the question "hey whats ur pass?" with their actual password. But you aren't that stupid, so I'll assume you would never do that. Scam artists don't stop there, their antics get creative as heck. They may tell you they are TNT and that neopets.com is going through some tech problems (NO TRUE TNT MEMBER WILL EVER ASK FOR YOUR PASSWORD!), or that they are leaving neopets and want to give you some neopoints (if they actually were, they could do it a legit way, like through a trade.) No matter what they tell you, never ever give out your password. And please, don't ever give someone your account info to let them "babysit" your neopets. Neopets don't need babysitting! If you are concerned with your pets, put them in a hotel!

Fake Logins

Another, trickier way for scammers to get your password is a fake login page. While none have been created for the new neopets login, the old login had many, many copycats. A good way to prevent this from happening to you is to never log in to neopets from a link. Always type www.neopets.com in the URL box by yourself-it just keeps things safe.

Log Out

When you are at home on your own computer it can be ok to keep yourself logged in to neopets. However, when you are not at home, always, always, always log out using the log out button on the top right of the page, near your username.

Don't Cheat

Many scammers will make fake "neopoint making" programs or restockers that require you to type in your login information. Never do this! Even if it isn't a scam, you will get frozen by TNT!

AAHH I've been hacked!

Calm down. No, you haven't been hacked (remember, no one has ever hacked neopets.com!) You've been scammed. If you can't log in to your account, use this link to get your account back. Beware, though, as neopets may not give your stuff back!
