The Definitive Guide to Painting Your Neopet

Nearly all neopians dream of having that Faerie Grundo or Durian Chia, but may not know how to get one. The first step, of course, is to figure out whether or not it is possible to paint your pet a certain colour. To see what colours you can paint your pet, click here and select your pet, then make sure you can paint your pet the desired colour, or pick a different colour to paint your neopet. When you have firmly decided upon a colour, continue.

Paint Brushes

Paintbrushes are the most well-known way to paint your pet. Click here to see if the colour you want to paint your pet is available in a paintbrush. If it is, you will want to find the name of the paintbrush (some paintbrushes are named obscure things, like Disco Fever Paintbrush), then go to the Trading Post and search for the brush you want. If you can't afford your paint brush yet, you may want to see our Neomillionaire guide. If you can afford the paintbrush you want, find the lowest asking price and click "offer". It is rude to offer a great deal less than the asking price of something on the TP, but most Neopians won't mind if you go under a thousand or two. When you've offered on the paint brush you want, its really best to wait a few days to give your offer-ee time to compare offers. Don't withdraw your offer simply because they didn't accept in the first 5 minutes (but do withdraw if a week has gone by and they haven't contacted you in some form.)

After you have your paint brush, make sure it is in your inventory and go to the Rainbow Pool. Then select the pet you want to paint under the picture of your paint brush, and voila! You've painted your neopet!

Morphing/Transmogrification Potions

Morphing and Transmogrification Potions are used to change both a neopet's species and colour. Morphing potions can change a neopet to nearly any species/colour, even to rare neopets like Draik and Krawk. To find out if your pet can be painted with a morphing potion, click here. Transmogrification Potions are made by Doctor Sloth, and can (rarely) be obtained by a random event. These potions change your neopets species, but the colour is always changed to Mutant (the colour can be changed again by all other methods of painting) Also, changing your neopet with a transmogrification potion will earn you a pretty avatar like this:

Other Potions

Some potions, like the Mysterious Swirly Potion (changes pet to limited edition species) will change your pet species and/or colour. To obtain these, you can fish for a very long time, or you can buy them in the trading post/auctions. This option can be quite random.

The Lab Ray

The Secret Laboratory Ray can change one (1) pet once (1) a day (but you can pick different pets on different days.) This option is totally random, and can change everything from Neopet stats, colour, species, intelligence, or do nothing. You must buy the map in seperate pieces (there are nine)

The entire map can cost upwards of 950,000 neopoints, but in my (and all owners) opinion it is definitely worth it. Some colours, like snot and sponge, can only be painted using the Secret Lab Ray. There is also an avatar that you get when the lab ray changes your neopet's species:

Fountain Faerie Quests

Perhaps the coolest of all, Fountain Faerie Quests will change your neopet to any colour you choose; however, they are very rare. If the Fountain Faerie ever gives you a quest, it is definitely in your best interest to complete it, then go to the Rainbow Fountain to paint your pet!
