Neopets Adoption/Neopian Pound Guide

Intro

For most Neopians, the thought of getting that perfect pet: trained well, painted, well-dressed, etc. is a far-off dream. That is, until adoption agencies began. Adoption agencies are online groups dedicated to matching Neopians with pets that have already been created. While you can't change the name of an adopted pet, they have usually been trained at least a little and are often painted. With the new Pound, you can choose to either Adopt, Transfer, or Abandon a pet.

Adopt a Neopet

Adopting a pet from the hundreds living in the pound is a simple process. You don't have to plead, apply, or talk to anyone to find a great pet in the pound, but you may have to look for a long time before you find a decent pet!

Adopting a pet from the pound does have a Neopoint fee. This fee changes with each pet, but there is a simple calculation to figure out the total cost of the pet you'd like to adopt. The fee is as follows:

[Attack Points + Defense Points + Movement Points + 60] x Level

Another restriction on adopting a pet is that accounts under four months old cannot adopt limited edition and restricted pets.

Transfer

Transferring a Neopet is the simplest and most foolproof way of getting a Neopet from one account to another without interference.

It costs 1000 (1k) Neopoints to transfer a pet, and you can't get this back. Also, you may only transfer one Neopet per month, and you may only accept a transfer once per month. If the transfer is not accepted, the Neopet will return to the original owner (who cannot retry the transfer for a month). Lutaris cannot be transferred.

Abandon

Without abandoning Neopets, adopting them couldn't exist. If you are unhappy with a pet and want to abandon it, perhaps to get a new one through adoption, there are a few things you should know. First, the petpet your pet has will go with him/her into the pound and you may never get it back. It is also quite hard to find your pet in the pound as it can be adopted at any moment, so be absolutely sure you want to abandon your pet before you do. Any battledome equipment and clothing will be returned to your inventory if you choose to abandon. You can abandon one pet per day, and it costs 250 Neopoints to do so.

Everywhere on the internet, Neopian Adoption Agencies are sprouting up to connect Neopets that are up for adoption with their prospective owners.
